The bare essentials for beginners 2 – Crystals, supplies and rerolling

Disclaimer – This site focuses mostly on guides in italian. Some articles (like this one) have an english version, but it has been machine translated and then checked. If you find any errors please report them.

This is the second part of the series of mini-guides that contains the bare essentials for those just starting the game. You can find the first part here . This guide is updated to version 4.5.

I would like to talk about the most important and rarest currency in the game, namely crystals, and their use. Crystals can be used in many ways: to resurrect a character, to get more stamina, to get more asterites, etc. However, most of these uses are a waste of crystals. There are only three ways in which crystals should be used:

  1. To pull in the supplies, which contain gear and battlesuits that cannot be obtained otherwise.
  2. For Land of Wishes (abbreviated LoW), which offers farmable characters, but offers them at an extremely low price.
  3. For S-rank Valkyrie fragments in the logistics terminal. All the fragments that are on offer in the logistics terminal belong to farmable Valkyries. However, there is a limit to the fragments that can be obtained through ancient willpower each week and the cost for 80 fragments taken from this shop is less than 8000 crystals, compared to the 14000 needed on average to find them in the expansion supply. A godd deal, but not as good as LoW. There are some cases in which buying them can be a decent investment, but for most players it is not a good idea.

With the release of version 4.5 and the change to bonuses for new players, there is now only one very obvious method of using crystals in the beginning.

Before using the crystals

With the new beginner bonuses, you quickly receive tons of dorm supply cards to pull in the dorm supply. This supply offers two guaranteed S ranks in the first 50 pulls, an extremely good offer. However, at the same time, this supply is the only one where you do not know which battlesuit will come out. This means it is better to remove this element of RNG before proceeding to spend your crystals normally.

So, start by pulling in the dorm supply until you have found two S ranks. Do not use crystals, but use the dorm supply cards that will be provided to you. You should be able to get 50 cards by level 35.

Land of Wishes

At this point, switch to LoW. From the first egg you can choose one between KMB, LE and DB as well as 30 extra fragments of the same battlesuit. From the second egg you can choose between BR, Px and Meme. For the first egg, both KMB and LE are extremely good. For the second egg Px is by far the best. If you have previously found Px in the dorm supply, the second part of LoW is not a priority and you can postpone it.

The sixth challenge of Path to Greatness provides another egg from which an S rank can be chosen. Usually you take the character between LE and KMB that you didn’t choose in LoW. Another very common option is SK, the only non-farmable valk present in the egg.

To choose a character from the egg you can also rely on this video but keep in mind that, even though it is still somewhat accurate, it is very old.

Starter Supply

There are special starter supplies for beginners that last 60 days.

The supply for the valks contains:

This supply is bad. Not only does it contain two S ranks, which means it doesn’t guarantee you HoT, which is much more useful than AE for a new player, but all A ranks are bad choices to focus on at first. Ignore it and wait for a normal expansion supply.

There are also two supplies for the equipment. The first contains:

This supply is really great. Not only does it guarantee HoT’s weapon in 60 pulls, but all stigmata sets are extremely useful, the only useless piece is Goemon T, which will still be useful in the beginning. Furthermore, almost all weapons are useful, even if only for unlocking PRIs for the late game. The only exceptions are Aphrodite and Eos Gloria.

It may seem odd to pull HoT’s gear before the valk herself, but it can be a good idea to do so.

The second supply for the equipment includes:

The quality of this supply is clearly inferior to the other one.

Rerolling

Rerolling in Honkai remains a rather laborious process and I would strongly suggesto you do not reroll at all, but the new benefits for beginners allow a particular type of “long” reroll that I will try to cover for those who want to do it anyway.

This reroll lasts 4 or 5 days and consists of using the starter supply to try to pull HoT instead of AE, at the same time completing the dorm supply. If you manage to get HoT and two valkyries other than DB in the dorm supply you keep the account, otherwise it’s a reroll.
